On Sunday 22nd January, Te Aroha Handball club entered 2 teams to compete in the annual Beach Handball competition held on Oriental Parade. Both teams: T.A. Eels & T.A. Mustangs – were mixed, and competed in the Social division of the competition. The TA Eels performed exceptionally well coming 2nd place in their first-ever time in this event Big ‘Thanks’ to Langi for organising the Te Aroha Teams, and big thanks to all our players who attended and played on the day!! Calling all interested players who may be interested in participating in a Senior Men’s & Senior Women’s team to travel to Tahiti (Women) and New Caledonia (Men) in the month of November 2008. We will be starting back Te Aroha Handball Club trainings at the beginning of February 08, and meeting will be called for all those interested in this opportunity. If you wish to register your interest for these end of year tours please contact club secretary: marie@tahv.co.nz All registered and paid members of the HNZ are invited to attend the upcoming AGM to be held on Saturday 26th January 2008. The AGM is being held at the old Waiwhetu School buildings: starting 9am – 11am. Following on from the AGM their will be an open forum for all members and other interested Handball parties to participate in – so come and have your say and share in the day. For more details contact HNZ Secretary: hnzsecretary@xtra.co.nz In the month of December 2007, two Te Aroha players represented New Zealand in a combined Oceania Continental Team for Youth Women (17years Under). This team consisted of players from NZ, Aust, Tahiti, New Caledonia, Wallis & Futuna. Both Te Hau (OHF squad member), and older sister Marie Winitana (OHF Assistant Coach) were part of the New Zealand delegation included in the team. The team assembled in Auckland, travelling to South Korea to complete a one-week training camp led by Mr Bae Jong Ik. During this leg of the journey the team stayed in Cheong-Ju City ( 2 hours drive south of Seoul), staying at local girls high school ‘Il shin High’. The second leg of the journey saw the team travel to Paris to compete in the ‘Mondialito International Friendly Tournament’ hosted by the Medittereanian Handball Confederation. 12 International teams competed, and games were played in various locations around Paris. The OHF team played against: France, Slovenia, Spain, Greece & Cyprus, coming 12th place in the tournament. The trip was an amazing experience for all involved, the OHF team was invited to attend and watch the International Senior Women’ s World Championships in downtown Paris and attended the finals.
