Tamaiti Whangai Case Management Service
This service is a new approach to closing the Health Education and Social
gaps for people with in the Hutt Valley. The service has three parts, which
has brought some of our older services into a new and exciting era of case
management. The team consists of key staff from with in the Runanga who have
specialist skills in working with many government and community agencies.
Whanau Ora/ Tu Tangata
This service aims to provide for Rangatahi and their whänau to achieve an
ability to walk with the breath /wind of wholeness and well being that is
commonly understood as Hauora and in doing so achieve Whanau Ora.
Rangatahi who are identified as ‘at risk’ of failing in the current
education system or who are of an ‘at risk” social system will be formally
engaged in this programme along with their whänau so that all will benefit
from the reinforcement of positive altitudes, beliefs and values that are
innate in Whanau ora.
Alcohol and other Drug Service
The Runanga has provided this service in the past with the Hutt Valley DHB
services based here in Lower Hutt. However there are many new providers who
are now offering services for people with in our area and this service will
assist people to gain the service that will best met there need. We also
provide information and education for communities on all issues of Alcohol
and Drug.
The Case Management Referral Service
In October 2004 this new service was started to offer a case management
style of service to people to ensure that they were able to have their needs
met. The service was born out of Kara Puketapu’s vision to form a
Wainuiomata Governance Group. The first meeting was held and many government
agencies attended and made a commitment to this pilot.
The service has very good networks with WINZ, Housing NZ, Justice, Early
Childhood services, IRD, Alcohol and Drug services, Mental Health services,
Tertiary i.e. WelTec, Wananga and many others, and PHO’s with in our area
this has meant that we can refer people directly to the services they need.
We also have two field workers one in Wainuiomata based at Wainuiomata Marae
and one in Upper Hutt who people can contact if they wish or they contact us
directly here by clicking on this link ken.szeto@atiawa.co.nz and emailing a
request to us.
This service has now been evidence based and over the last two months of
trailing the service, feed back from clients has been very positive. Our
Data that we have collected from every client has allowed us to have a good
picture of what are the biggest needs are with in our communities here in
the Hutt Valley. For access to our collected data click
